A COUNTRY CHIC STYLE WITH CHALKY TONES
The Royal Cornwall Museum was looking to maximise retail opportunities; changes to its tired and dated shop were required to achieve this. Adopting a country chic style with chalky tones, we took care of the interior design and fit-out, transforming the retail space.
Working with a limited budget, some of the Museum’s existing retail furniture was innovatively upgraded. New pieces were added too, including suitcases, wicker baskets and apple crate displays, as well as bespoke wooden cabinets which add to the country look and feel. A ladder display in the window intrigues passers-by and lures them in from the street.
With the introduction of admissions charges at the Museum, the reception area also needed to be reconfigured. Continuing the same style as the retail area throughout, we manufactured a reception desk which doubles up as a shop counter, above which a large diameter lightshade with printed graphic hangs to notify visitors of the new admissions.
Mixing opposites by introducing country chic into a city museum has created an eclectic space that is both unique and functional.
