PERFORMING ARTS INFLUENCED THIS ICONIC SCHOOL'S SIGNAGE
One of the last schools to receive ‘Building Schools for the Future’ funding, Brannel School has since become one of the most iconic secondary schools in Cornwall. Designed by HLM architects and built by Kier Western, a truly inspirational learning environment has been created.
In need of a signage and way-finding solution that would complement the high quality architecture, the school looked to 20/20 to come up with a suitable solution. Because the best design starts by putting yourself in the shoes of its potential users, we conducted workshops with staff and pupils to get an understanding of their expectations and to capture the school’s brand essence. The school’s performing arts status influenced our proposals from there on in…
Notions of theatre and performance are evident throughout our designs. Vertically stacked typography, similar to that you would find in a theatre, is used where possible. Some text is framed in circles as though it has been captured in the spotlight and ‘ribbons’ entwine lettering to make a colourful impact.
Mirror-polished stainless steel was chosen for the external sign for longevity and to ensure the sign stood out from the grey backdrop of the school building. From external building and reception signs, to door plates and environmental wall graphics, we designed, manufactured and installed the whole lot. Working to tight deadlines, we delivered the project on budget and in time for the new school term.
We worked closely with the project architect during the design phase to ensure the brand, signage and environmental graphics complimented the building.
